Scotts Valley, California, is a small, quiet town in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains just north of the city of Santa Cruz. Being in the foothills, Scotts Valley is surrounded by nature, particularly the Redwood Forests, with a host of parks and outdoor activities. The city is six minutes north of Santa Cruz, off US Highway 17 North, and 26 minutes from San Jose via US Highway 17 South.
Scotts Valley already has many big-city amenities, allowing residents to get all they need without leaving the city. There is a movie theater, plenty of restaurants, cafes, and even some hardware and gardening stores, with major retailers, such as Target, coming soon. So even though Scotts Valley is close to Santa Cruz, it’s self-sustaining.

Scotts Valley is a small, leisurely town whose residents take things at their own pace. Away from the bustle of Santa Cruz, but with all the amenities of a big city, residents don't lack anything. Friends and family spend time at local cafes and restaurants that have their own unique charm. The town also hosts regular events at local venues and has no lack of outdoor activities for families, friends, and pet owners to enjoy.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Scotts Valley has plenty to offer in the way of shopping and entertainment. Cinelux Theatres, off Mt. Hermon Road in the heart of Scotts Valley, boasts all the latest releases and offers a flashback cinema, regularly airing classic movies. In the same shopping area, residents can find unique cafes, such as Coffee Cat. They push the envelope of the cafe model and make their food fresh every day, offering great coffee with it. Across the street is Peet's Coffee, serving not just coffee lovers but also tea connoisseurs.
A popular gastropub in Scotts Valley is Malone’s Grille. Patrons enjoy hand-cut steaks in a warm atmosphere with fireside dining indoors and on the patio. Ristorante Casa Nostra serves authentic Italian dishes and has a one-of-a-kind taproom.
There are two hardware stores and a selection of gardening and landscaping stores. This allows homeowners to decorate their ideal front and backyard without going all the way to the big city. If going to the big city is necessary, it is an easy commute.
Things to Do
There are many outdoor activities to enjoy in Scotts Valley. Sky Park has basketball courts, a skate park, a playground, and other activities. The Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, just south of the city, has campgrounds for residents looking to get away for a few nights and enjoy the luxury of nature. It also has many hiking trails, allowing for great Saturday morning exercise.
Big Basin Redwoods State Park, home to the country's most beautiful and biggest redwoods, is a 30-minute drive northwest. With beautiful weather year-round, these parks and other areas are always available for residents to enjoy.
